Turning 5 into 50

Lahu went to the seed demo center and seed plot during last year's exposure visit. There he gained a lot of knowledge about different indigenous seed varieties of Rice, some of which were observed to be highly medicinal & highly productive. He made the best use of this inspiration and his resources. Previously he was growing just 3 varieties of rice and  3 varieties of vegetables. After introduction to ‘Seeds For Life’ program, he has equipped himself to optimise his production cycles to 10 varieties of rice and 14 varieties of vegetables.

A variety of Desi Rice, Horse gram (Kulid), Hyacinth Beans (Godval), Black Sesame (Kala Til), Black mung (Kala Mug), Pigeon pea (Tur), Bottle gourd, chili, Brinjal, sunflower, Groundnut, Turmeric and green peas (Channa), under the supervision & support of the organization. GEV also trained the farmers for different types of organic techniques on farms, resulting in controlled or less expenses on fertilizers & pesticides etc.

From this initiative he now has different types of indigenous varieties of cereals, vegetables. Effectively, he is using the same land parcel of 5 acres, to get 25 varieties of crops, as opposed to merely 6 before.

What next?

Lahu turning 5 acres into generating 50 crop variants!

Here’s wishing him all the very best from Team GEV.
